Help with an unknown video game?

I know this is pretty vague, but I'd like to find out what video game it is. When I was younger, I remember my mom playing a video game. It seemed pretty scary to me then, so I'm uming it would be put under the "horror" genre. At the beginning, you had two or three people in your fighting party. It was a turn-based game, and you had to fight this old woman (I think she was a demon? Your main protagonist referred to her as an "old hag"), and the girl in your party fought with an oversized book. That's all I can remember, since it was so long ago that I saw my mom play it. Does this ring a bell to anyone?
