I was workng on a friends 2002 mitusbishi lancer and i noticed it was a 16 valve engine?

I know its a 4 cyl. but being its a 16 valve i thought that it would be DOHC but when i went to look for parts on the Napa webiste it listed a SOHC 16 valve? how can this be?
