Isn't it a bit ignorant for Doug Melvin to already rule out trying to trade for Jake Peavy?

Seeing as how the Brewers aren't on the list of teams that Peavy would waive his no-trade clause for, I don't think Melvin has any choice but to rule out the possibility of trading for him. Melvin has no chance at landing Jake Peavy, so why waste time, energy and money trying to do it? There is no point in negotating a trade that is sure to get shot down by the player you're trying to trade for.
