Why didnt he dump me then?

Been seeing this guy almost 5 months now, when we are together its great he says he loves spending time with me and really likes me. The only problem is he is very bad at texting and calling, his job is very very busy and i am understanding of it. But when i am with him he is very attentive and makes me feel great. Last week i hadnt heard from him so i emailed him saying what was going on that i wasnt hearing from him and i also was giving him hints on how i felt about him. I honestly thought wheni had sent the email that he would dumpe me after what i had wrote. So all weekend i was convinced we were over. But then he wrote back to me and i was very surprised, he said that he was very sorry and he wasnt ignoring me its just that he is so busy, and has been single for so long that he just doesnt remember to text back. He says he isnt messing me about on purpose its just his crazy life. And that he will contact me when he gets back from being abroad. So why the hell didnt he just dump me then? Does he still like me? By the way he works very long days 6 days a week so there is nobosy else involved!
